Pet Sitting is more popular than ever. All kinds of apps and networks exist to assist the aspiring pet sitter.

A few years ago I tried to get a steady business going. I created BonzPetCare in Goldsboro. I advertised with car magnets, business cards, and signed up with networks. I set up a table at the local dog park and gave away free milk bones.

Nothing worked.

I acquired a few jobs here & there, but nothing to increase my pitiful bank account.

I think a bigger city would offer more opportunities.

Nonetheless, it was fun and educational. Every dog and cat I met had their own unique personalities; even a little lizard I fed made me laugh.

One home I worked at had several dogs that were pretty wild. They were rescued from different situations. When they heard my car drive up and the door knob jiggle, they went crazy! I’d enter the house and they nearly knocked me down with affection.

It’s a good feeling. Probably the reason we love dogs and other animals like we do.

I know it still feels like yesterday my golden retriever met me at the door with his thick coat and wagging tail. When I lived in Western NC, I’d walk Micah down a curvy mountain road to a bridge and creek. Clear water, stones, rocks, and pebbles soothed my mind and relaxed Micah, who was often an anxious dog.

I wasn’t even familiar with pet sitting then. Most people I knew boarded their pets. But for some pets, a sitter is ideal. The dog is more relaxed, and in my experiences, happier when they are home. Some, like children, are very insecure around strangers.

BonzPetCare didn’t have the quantity, but I can assure you it provided quality.

Oh, well. A failed entrepreneurial effort. At least in the monetary department. But you never know about these things unless you give it a try.

And I always keep trying.

The alternative is unacceptable!
