In the early 80s, I listened to my older brother’s record albums. I especially liked Journey, Boston, Rush, and the Bee Gees.
One day last year I heard a Foreigner song, Jukebox Hero, on the radio. I remembered listening to that as well.
What grabbed my attention was the line And that one guitar made his whole life change.
In my theological repertoire, I include rock music. Actually, all kinds of music. I’ve even written sermons about some of them.
One guitar, or any instrument, can transform a life. Where there is nothing but an empty space, a new world opens up. New possibilities and new trails to blaze.
It may sound corny and cheesy, but some books did that for me. My one guitar was a sentence in the first chapter of Mere Christianity by C. S. Lewis.

I understood something that hadn’t previously been clear. Lewis gave me a starting point, a foundational stone, a building block that would change my life’s course.
Many more instruments would appear at various times.
I may not have a church home that will allow me to express my perspectives, but I still have that one guitar.
So I’ll keep on rockin…
