The scoundrel’s methods are wicked, he makes up evil schemes to destroy the poor with lies, even when the plea of the needy is just.

But the noble man makes noble plans, and by noble deeds he stands.

Isaiah 32:7-8

“Even when the plea of the needy is just” suggests simply being needy doesn’t mean one is just. And being wealthy doesn’t mean one is unjust.

Those in leadership must work at training their minds to ignore typical stereotypes.

WHO WE ARE

Dedicated to James A. Hetfield

In a previous post, I mentioned doing whatever it takes to get you through another day. Or just another moment.

Music can do that for you.

I heard a song on my car radio one day that I’d never heard. I turned the volume up and was kinda mesmerized.

Who is that?

I found out it was the band Metallica singing Nothing Else Matters.

I had no knowledge of the band, but that song quickly became a favorite.

My interpretation of the song may not match what the writer intended, but I find it soothing. Reassuring.

Particularly the line forever trusting who we are .

Especially if “who we are” is someone who has no desire to harm another.

Especially if ” who we are” is someone who always wants to improve.

Especially if ” who we are” is someone who still believes in the pursuit of happiness.

Metallica has other songs that are hard & fast. Maybe even offensive to some ears.

To me, personally, their sound gives flesh to anger .

That part of us that is simply human with a wide range of emotions that scream for expression.

I think it was Voltaire that advised writers to ” be orderly in your life and violent in your art.” Something like that.

When I speak of violence in art, I mean honest, real, sometimes raw & harsh, and with Truth in mind of how life can be. That part of life’s harshness that demands expression.

That part of life that pushes words out like “Woe to him who builds his house by unrighteousness And his chambers by injustice”(Jeremiah 22:13).

That part of life that screams ” But let justice run down like water, And righteousness like a mighty stream,” (Amos 5:24).

There is still a place in America for such words.

Let artists be artists.

A wise guy by the name of Dr. Francis A. Schaeffer wrote:

” if Christianity is really true, then it involves the whole man, including his intellect and creativeness. Christianity is not just ‘ dogmatically ‘ true or ‘ doctrinally’ true. Rather, it is true to what is there, true in the whole area of the whole man in all of life, “( Art & the Bible).

Use common sense.

All music and books are not for everybody.

The rating system is a good thing.

Fair.

That precious freedom to create and evolve and possess a bit of happiness is worth defending.

Who hasn’t had a day when you feel the need to rock on with a song like Don’t Tread On Me by Metallica?

With prophets or books or music–keep pursuing that happiness.
