The message of Amos is dear to me because it speaks to my soul.

Through prayer and studies, and practical application, I learned what truly matters to God, or the God/Higher Authority I believe exists.

I learned what matters most is not only love, of course, but learning to do justly.

The message of Amos is not centered on Man’s typical failures in the flesh–such as addiction. Addiction is not a salvific issue. I’ve been reminded of this repeatedly through the teaching of a Holy Spirit.

There are indeed consequences with various addictions, and Man must come to terms with the law of the land.

God’s concern, spoken through the prophet Amos, is with the unjust dealings of leadership, the authorities, those with power and resources.

God’s harsh decision in Amos 7:7-8, setting the plumbline amongst the professing House of God at that time, was based on the leaders’ repeated, ongoing, deliberate injustices.
